The Fort of Bertheaume, in Plougonvelin

After having been faithfully restored, the Fort de Bertheaume , built in the 5th century on an islet overlooking the entrance to the Goulet de Brest, invites you to discover its past through numerous exhibitions and activities .

Pointe Saint-Mathieu is an exceptional site where the remains of the abbey stand, the Saint-Mathieu lighthouse, the Memorial to sailors who died for France, the semaphore and the Notre-Dame-de-Grâce chapel.

The panorama from the point is one of the most impressive in Brittany: on a clear day, the view goes from the Pointe du Raz and the Ile de Sein to Ouessant and Molène, passing through thecapes and points of the Crozon peninsula. We can also see the legendary Pierres Noires lighthouse offshore.

 

The visitable lighthouses of the Iroise Sea: Trézien and Saint Mathieu

 

  • 37 m high (58 m above sea level), the Saint-Mathieu lighthouse in Plougonvelin was built in 1835 due to the dilapidation of the abbey tower. It indicates the route to follow to enter the Brest Narrows. Its fire reaches a range of 29 miles (approximately 55 km). It is possible to visit it and climb the 163 steps , to discover a 360° panorama of the Iroise Sea , its islands and its ten lighthouses.

  • From its height of 37 meters, the Trézien lighthouse in Plouarzel, erected in 1894, illuminates the sea up to 42 km away. Up there, the panorama is fantastic, you can see Pointe Corsenwhere the regional maritime rescue center is located, the Cross Corsen.

The Iroise Marine Natural Park
